AGRANA brought its new production site in Egypt into service at the end of May 2011, which it operates under the name ‘AGRANA Nile Fruits’ as part of its joint venture with the Egyptian company Nile Fruits. AGRANA is the majority stockholder in the joint venture with 51%.

AGRANA Nile Fruits will open this facility with an annual production of around 5,000 tonnes of fruit preparations. These will then be supplied largely to international dairy companies that operate production sites in Egypt, as well as in the neighboring countries of Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and Morocco.

Despite the challenging political situation in Egypt, AGRANA continues to show optimism regarding the growth potential of its future sales markets. “Dairy products are enjoying a considerable rise in popularity throughout the Middle East and North Africa. Our facility in Egypt enables us to enjoy customs-free access to these markets. In this way, we can reinforce our market position in this region and use this as a basis for further expansion,” explains Johann Marihart, Managing Director of AGRANA Beteiligungs-AG.
